Lesley Graham
OBITUARY
8/1/1925 to 6/11/2006
At 18 years of age Les enlisted in the RAAF as a trainee wireless telegraphist.
On the successful completion of his course he was posted to 110 MFCU No. 1 Fighter Wing Darwin and later served with It OMFCU No. 80 Fighter Wing in Moratai and Balikpapan.
Les had a great sense of humour, the Americans of 36 Fighter Sector Squadron US Army Air Force the unit li OMFCU he was attached to at Moratai had never met Australians before as they had had their furloughs in New Zealand.
One night in the Operations Room Les told the Americans his father was the Sheriff of Surry Hills and rode shotgun on the stagecoach down to Sydney.
After that night of entertainment he was nicknamed the Sheriff. He had his ups and downs at two up but always laughed it off as luck of the draw.
On his return to civilian life he went back to the Department of Railways moving all around NSW as a Station Master.
His last appointment before retirement was Station Master Port Kembla, a very important station and marshalling yards.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Joy and family members and also his 100MFCV mates.
