The Blue Draft or part of it at least on board headed for Canada and thence to England.

He was born on 14th November 1920 and enlisted 17th September 1940, joining the Blue Draft.     While posted at Darwin as a fitter, being the quintessential "larrikin," he made cigarette lighters in his spare time and ran the still.  He was discharged 1st June 1948 from No 7 Operational Training Unit.

He became a fitter and turner for Borg Warner and later Theiss Bros where he designed a new type of rock ripper, saving the industry millions.  He finished his career as Supply Manager.  He was an avid model railway enthusiast, with his grandson, and on holiday in the UK he toured all the airfields where he had been stationed during the war. He lost his sight in 1992 so taught himself to use a computer. He won a community award in 2002 for his assistance in obtaining DVA pensions for fellow veterans
