Lloyd, Robert 'Bill'
Robert B. (Bill) Lloyd
Flight Sergeant - RAAF
431780
Spitfire News - April 1985, Number 42
Robert was born in Moonee Ponds Victoria August 8th 1925.
Posted to 452 Squadron (RAAF). Over the years, like many members of 452 Squadron, I have kept in touch with my pal Bill Lloyd, and it grieves me to tell you of his recent death.
In Brisbane, around early/mid-1940, Bill and myself were sworn in together and again in Brisbane, late October/early-November of 1945, we were discharged together.
We trained at the same Air Force Bases:
1940 - I.T.S., Bradfield Park, Lindfield, SYDNEY
1940 - E.F.T.S., Narranderra, N.S.W.
1940 - S.F.T.S., Camp Borden, CANADA.
1941 - O.T.U., Llandau, SOUTH WALES
Then to 452 Squadron stationed firstly at Redhill; after two months, moved up to Kenley; another three months back to Redhill and finally to the Isle of Man before returning home and going to Darwin.
1944 2 O.T.U. Instructors, MILDURA
1945 O.T.U. Both had squadrons Narromine and Parkes.
We were to rejoin one of the old squadrons again, somewhere north of Australia, when the show folded up.
Rather remarkable when you consider Bill always flew with "A1 Flight and I with "B1 Flight. All-told, we roomed and tented -lived together for over five years and hardly had a day apart.
Whilst the loss to me is very real and a severe blow to Bill's many friends, we have the consolation of knowing he went out peacefully Saturday December 8th. Acutally on my 70th birthday.
We have all lost a loyal and trusted friend.
