Charles Irving Younger was born at Burwood, NSW on 5th January, 1916.

Prior to enlistment, he was a jackeroo and then overseer on Western Queensland properties. He joined the RAAF when the recruiting train came to Longreach on 24th May, 1941.

Trained at Sandgate, Tamworth and Deniliquin, he was then posted to the United Kingdom where he did some aircraft ferrying. From there, he was posted to 680 Squadron RAF in the Middle East and from there to 681 Squadron RAF in Burma.

Receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, he was finally discharged on 12th November, 1945.

He returned to Western Queensland as an Extension Officer with the Department of Agriculture and Stock, which became the Primary Industries Department, retaining a pride of his association with the Spitfire Association.
