Born Boolaroo, New South Wales

 

Fred began his flying training at No 8 EFTS Narranderra in April 1943 and later with No 5 SFTS Uranquinty before leaving Australia and traveling to England.

There he trained on Miles Master 11's prior to being with No 71 OTH at Ismailia on Hurricanes and Spitfires.

He also flew with No 332 Norwegian Squadron of 132 Wing on Spitfire Mk 1X's and then with No 66 RAF Squadron on Spitfire Mk XV1's

His final posting was to No 453 RAAF Squadron as part of the Occupation Forces to Germany, along with No 451 RAAF Squadron.

He was discharged in May 1946 while at 66 Squadron.

He began and finished his working life with Newcastle's Commonwealth Steel.
